Colt Nichols has his sights set on future podiums after taking a career-best FIM World Supercross Championship finish at the WSX Canadian GP in Vancouver.
Nichols, who made his WSX debut last season, joined Dustin Pipes’ PMG Suzuki squad ahead of the 2024 campaign and immediately found the speed and consistency he was desperately searching for in 2023.
At BC Place, Nichols quickly emerged as a frontrunner in the WSX class and went 5-3-4 across each GP Race to qualify for the series’ first-ever SuperFinal – a multi-class race in which he finished third.

With a consistent run of top five finishes, Nichols finished fourth overall on the night, falling just short of the final step of the podium which was secured by Fire Power Honda rider and two-time WSX vice champion, Joey Savatgy.
“This weekend was awesome,” said Nichols post-race. “I was really close to the podium, and I really wanted to be on the podium in the first round and came out just a touch short, but overall, it was awesome.
“We got some really good feedback on the bike and made some changes after the first two GP races ahead of the final two and we made a big, big improvement but we didn’t know what to expect.
“This was our first time in race conditions with a set of whoops and the track broke down really crazy, so it was a good test and we got some great feedback.”
After coming close to what could have been a first WSX podium, Nichols is buoyed by his current pace and form and described the WSX Canadian GP as being better than anything he achieved in the series last year – a campaign which saw him win the final GP Race of the finale.
“Now we can go back, make some changes to the bike, and hopefully we can show up to Australia a little more prepared so we can be in the podium fight and maybe even closer to the guys ahead,” added Nichols.
“Overall, it [Vancouver] was a really awesome first round and a lot better than anything I did last year so we’re in a good spot.
“I’m really excited with where we are and I’m looking forward to getting more into the fight in the next three events.”
By amassing 74 points in Canada, Nichols holds fourth in the WSX Riders’ Standings, five points shy of Savatgy and only 13 points adrift of his total points haul from the 2023 season. He will be back in action on 23-24 November for the double-header WSX Australian GP at HBF Park in Perth.
