Kyle Chisholm and Derek Kelley will join forces at Pipes Motorsports Group (PMG) for the 2024 FIM World Supercross Championship (WSX) season as the duo prepares to contest the series’ SX2 250cc class.

Both Chisholm and Kelley are familiar faces in the WSX paddock and competed against one another in the championship’s inaugural SX2 campaign back in 2022.

While Kelley stepped away from the championship last year, Chisholm continued to race and joined PMG from CDR Yamaha to form one half of the team’s rider lineup in the series’ premier WSX 450cc class as a team-mate to reigning two-time World Champion, Ken Roczen.

By taking a best finish of sixth at the 2023 WSX British GP, Chisholm finished eighth in last season’s standings and will return to SX2 competition for the upcoming campaign as part of Dustin Pipes’ PMG squad.

After taking a series-best championship finish with Cullin Park in SX2 last season, PMG is aiming for a breakthrough 250cc campaign in 2024. Chisholm will spearhead that effort.

Despite PMG’s success in the 450cc WSX class, I was surprised that the team has never been on the podium in SX2, and I want to try and change that this year.

For Derek Kelley, 2024 will mark his first season back in WSX since representing PMG in SX2 in 2022 where he finished 11th in points with a best finish of seventh in Cardiff, Wales.

Since his debut season, Kelley has grown to reach new heights and showed improved speed and consistency in 2023 to finish ninth overall in the highly competitive AMA Supercross 250SX West series.

In 2024, Kelley was forced to sit out 250SX West after breaking his arm but returned to race in the AMA Motocross 450cc Championship where he finished 18th overall, taking a best finish of 12th at Washougal.

With his stock trending up across the global Supercross and Motocross scene, the 2024 WSX season will be a key campaign for Kelley when the 25-year-old lines up on the grid in Vancouver.

The 2024 FIM World Supercross Championship (WSX) season will commence on 26 October at BC Place in Vancouver for the WSX Canadian GP, before heading to HBF Park in Perth for the double-header WSX Australian GP on 23-24 November. The season will conclude in Abu Dhabi on 4 December where two World Champions will be crowned at Etihad Arena.

Unfortunately in SX2, we’ve always been one step away from the podium, but with riders of Kyle and Derek’s calibre, I’m confident that we’ll be able to aim for those top positions this season.
